When it comes to decor, I prefer the unexpected. One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing things all matchy matchy. Some things that are in sets aren't bad, but if I can find a way to create a more unique look, I will. Going to the furniture store and picking up an entire set of furniture that's all from the same collection doesn't sound appealing to me at all. I much prefer mixing things up and finding those special pieces as I come across … [Read more...]
Decor: A Lofty Look
I'm a little obsessed with this loft that was recently featured in Lonny. This space started with an industrial look but transformed into this warm eclectic space. Designed by Homepolish designer Allison Petty, she pulled warm tones with the golds and velvets that made the space inviting, comfortable, and very welcoming. We might not live in loft apartments with brick walls, but there are lots of great inspirations we can … [Read more...]
Blue and White Decor: Part 2
Last week I talked about decorating with blue and white. In case you missed it, you can see it HERE. I have LOTS of blue and white in my home. It's been a LONG time coming BUT, my family room is like just a week or two away from being COMPLETE! FINALLY! I started painting it last November... took me long enough, right? Jeez! I talked about this little makeover HERE. That room went from that butter yellow to this blue I'm showing below. … [Read more...]
How To Style Your Shelfie
You'll see home accessories on the blog often. I know, yes more. But to me, accessories for our homes are like the sprinkles of jewelry are to our look that we're wearing. The big heavier things, our furniture remains. So these added sprinkles are the things we can change up to freshen and change things up. Last week I shared with you 10 TIPS TO STYLE YOUR BOOKSHELVES with pointers on how to do, what to do, and what to put in them. So I … [Read more...]
Black Bar
This week I am 100% completely immersed in a home makeover project. I thought it wouldn't be a big deal, but it's bigger than I anticipated for sure. Not quite sure if it's because I haven't done it too often or what, but I guess I didn't realize the fumes and mess and displacement it would be for our whole crew. What kinda make-over? This space.... but today I'm specifically talking THIS space.... ... the bar. I shared … [Read more...]
Luxe Home Accessories
Yesterday I shared a bit of my home and had big issues... TV placement, wall tearing up or keeping as is, but I think what makes a room special are all the extras that was place in our space. On our coffee tables, in our bookshelves, on our sideboards and end tables. They're the little "sprinkles" for our room. Kinda like our jewelry is to a great outfit, these home accessories make our rooms sparkle just a bit more. I recently found some … [Read more...]
Built Ins Dilemma
I updated my kitchen several years ago, and because it's connected to my family room, the family room needed to follow. But it didn't. I need to paint the walls, change up the woodwork as well, and then of course the fluff will follow with furniture, window treatments and accessories. Here is why I have been dragging my feet and the issue I've been having. The built in for the TV. We built our house like 17 years … [Read more...]
Hautelook: Statements By J Home Furnishings
I'm a sucker for online deals and steals. As much as I love local, I love great finds I find online. Places like Hautelook have amazing finds on high end designer clothing, accessories, jewelry, home furnishings. They have these "flash sales" that last several days, then they move onto other things, but of course in all these wonderful categories. So as I'm opening my emails this week, these lovelies from Statements By J happened to be … [Read more...]
European Modern Furniture: BD Home
Right in our own back yard in Classen Curve lies this gem of a furniture store, unlike any other I've seen in my area. It's one of those places that has things that you see in fabulous interior design magazines, like Elle Decor or Veranda or Town & Country. BD Home is an upscale furniture store designed to meet the needs of those desiring unique European modern contemporary high end furnishings. Most things on the floor … [Read more...]
Hollywood Regency Design Elements
Today I'm following up on a post I shared last week, a post on interior design and a certain look called Hollywood Regency. In case you missed it, here it is. I LOVE it because it's so eclectic and reflective a fab finds of what pieces and treasures we put together, plus it's a reflection of an era when life was about glam and entertaining and being social and being FABULOUS. It has a timeless, classic element to it, with a flair of over the … [Read more...]
Design Elements: Mirrored Furnishings
There are some design elements I think that should be in every home. Whether there is something of this in every room or maybe just in some form or shape sprinkled here or there, I think mirrored furniture (even if it's a mirror on the wall) simply belongs. Usually done in accent pieces, either a side table, a nightstand, a buffet piece, a coffee table, even parts of your bed as you'll see, or something as simple as a mirror over the fireplace … [Read more...]
Coveting Coral
Coral is something I've always loved having a touch of here and there in my house. Something about it feels fresh… Donno if it's that nautical oceanic thing (I'm an ocean girl!) or what (I'm not a huge fan of nautical things, but this I love), but I've loved coral for several years now. It also adds that element of nature without adding greenery into the space. And the curves and branchiness I think balance the either curves or straight lines … [Read more...]
