As an American society, I think we are all so caught up in what we look like on the outside. I won’t deny I love to look good. I always have and always will. I mean who doesn’t like to look good, because in your mind if you think you look good, you’ll FEEL good. And part of that comes with the feeling we get when we dress ourselves and dress our hair and faces.
I’m guilty as ever on this. I grew up with a mom who worked in the beauty industry, first in her earlier years as a makeup artist and esthetician, to the latter half of her career doing hair. So believe me, I know beauty and absolutely LOVE it. As a little girl I used to sit in awe of her beauty watching her put her makeup on. That’s how we roll right? As little girls we want to dress up and play makeup. And when we grow up, we wake up, get ready, put our makeup on and off we go!
What if we didn’t put our make up on? What would it be like to not wear makeup? In recent talks with a few friends about this, I never ever thought as myself as beautiful without makeup, but sharing a selfie with no makeup with them, they’re like OMG you’re beautiful. And that’s when it hit me. I never did think I was beautiful, truly in all honesty. But I always felt the makeup “helps me out”. So that’s what I did. I put on my makeup. And of course that’s what we as women do. Well, this inspired me and one of my gal pals, fellow instagrammer Monica TheStyledWife to do a “Show me your #NakedFace” day. We want YOU to show us who you are. Because beneath all that stuff we put on … yes like I said, I’m guilty as charged!…. we truly ARE beautiful, and it’s not just about all that outside stuff, but what comes from within as well.
We all come in different shapes and sizes. Acceptance of who you are and loving ourselves is what should be. Trust me it’s something I’ve worked on my whole life. I never thought growing up I was beautiful… ever. I was short (that hasn’t changed) and I’ve never been a natural super skinny chic. Being Greek meant always eating good wholesome homemade rich food. And my gene pool doesn’t help! Thank goodness for Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, and my biggest girl crush JLo (who I want to be when I grow up!), for showing the world that curvy is beautiful. Because I’m learning to embrace my curves. This is self talk right here! I can’t change how God made me. I was made with my Greek nose, big tush, a little top heavy (wink!) and freckled (because I love the sun).
So, for all of that long windedness on my personal issues, I’m acceptance of my body and my face and this is what The Master has given to me. I say we ALL need to love ourselves and see our beauty for what it truly is.
I still get moved with all of the Dove videos and their movement for women to see ourselves as beautiful for who we are and that inner beauty to be our source of confidence. #onpurpose! This video put out earlier this year is so fascinating to see how much negativity we put out on ourselves… if we could change that to being positive. #speakbeautiful I absolutely love Dove’s mission.
So today I’m sending you a few selfies… in my #nakedface. Meaning NO makeup. I wash it and take care of it of course, but that’s it. What you see is what you get. Nothing on my eyes, cheeks, skin or lips.
So, I want YOU to show me your #nakedface! If you’re on Instagram, find my post tagged #nakedface. And post yours and use the hashtag #nakedface and tag me and Monica.
Here’s one more Dove video I had to share… #Selfie
Besides, our body is just a temporary thing here, right?
Love yourself in the skin you’re in.
[…] new bag, this is what I look like. Frizzy hair, makeup worn off kinda (we talked about that issue yesterday wink!), but, at least I had a fabulous bag that made it all […]
