Do you take pictures or videos on your phone? If you’ve become tech savvy and into the 21st century of all the things our phones can do (and I’m only using phones as the biggest example), then I want to let you in on one of my most favorite discoveries which is the most SIMPLE thing EVER and has been around for a while. Dropbox.
It’s been the thing that has put my mind at ease, relieved the memory on all of my devices, and has free’d me from the “OH NO WHAT IF I LOSE MY PICTURES???”
If you’re not familiar, here’s what it is and how it works.
It’s an ONLINE CLOUD that can store videos, pics, files. I think of pretty much anything you want. You can save them from online, upload them from cd’s or discs or thumb drives, OR as in my recent case, my PHONE via WIFI! …. So lemme translate that in the UTMOST simplistic way for you….
Irene is on vacation. Irene uses phone for her videos and pictures. Irene has the DROPBOX app on her phone and has settings set to SYNC with WIFI (which if you’re in the US, that is virtually everywhere). Irene is at the beach taking photos of kids building sandcastles. Irene goes back to the hotel after a long day of sun and fun with the family. That night, Irene drops her phone and a car runs over it. No need to fret…. all the fun pics Irene took of kids building sandcastles transferred WIRELESSLY to my Dropbox account and is now stored on the CLOUD. So when Irene goes BACK to her room and gets on her laptop, everything from her phone is on the CLOUD. And when Irene arrives back to her home, all the way in a different country, even from a different computer, all of Irene’s stuff is RIGHT THERE…. Accessible from ANY computer, anywhere, any place, any time. And it’s not taking up space on your hard drive like iPhoto does.
I am sure there are lots of programs out there that back up your stuff. But I have really fallen in love with this program. It’s easy to use, you can share files with others if you wish, and it’s just simple. From documents to pictures to videos, dropbox can handle it all.
I also had tons of stuff on discs… birth of babies, birthdays, family vacations… all from a solid 10 years ago. And after Oklahoma’s first round of tornado’s, I IMMEDIATELY dashed to my pile of discs that I had all my stuff stored on and quickly loaded them on to Dropbox. Peace of mind for preserving those precious memories. Like these…..
HERE’S how you can get started. I promise, if you don’t use some kind of a back up/sync system, this is one I give 5 stars!
