Momma knows best. No matter what, I have found that to be the case. Most often the hard way. And when it came to my ears, this was the case.
This is what I’ve been missing out on for the past 6 weeks…
My earrings. All of my favorite earrings. Do you know why I’ve been missing out on my stuff? Because I didn’t listen to my Momma. Yup. I have to say it, Mom, you were SO right!
Being a gal growing up in the 80’s, 2 things were part of our style: big bangs and big earrings. I had both. And dear mom warned me that my holes were going to rip. NAH! No way! Well, so ok if they ripped, it wouldn’t happen till I got OLD. Well…… I guess that OLD time came! Because lo and behold, they were pretty close to ripping. So, sure enough, I went to the doctor to snip em and stitch em back up, mom in tow as a way to say, YUP, YOU WERE RIGHT! 🙂
Now lemme tell you… I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some bling. Gimme sparkle and shine. Makes me feel pretty. Right? Well, I will tell you a few things that I went through during these past 6 weeks…
THE EMOTIONAL STAGES OF EAR LOBE RECONSTRUCTION (meant to be kinda comical, kinda sarcastic, very true):
1. Embarrassed of my stitches and was mortified people would notice.
2. Stitches went away and I was still concious of the fact that I didn’t have earrings on. Hard time putting together my “ensembles” minus earrings. Made me feel “naked”. Feel like I can’t live without my STUFF.
3. Got used to not wearing earrings. Felt like I had to have some serious arm parties going on to make up for it.
4. Began to forget about the no earring thing.
5. Felt FREE with no earrings.
6. Got ears re-pierced today. Cycle begins again.
Point being through all this, is this. Yes. We love all the STUFF. We love to look pretty. We love to feel a certain way. But in the end, do all my earrings and stuff REALLY matter? Nope. Quite freeing without it. But, do we love it? SURE we do!!! AMAAAAAAZING mom-to-be Christine over at Bijou and Boheme was finding out today the sex of her baby bump today. Is she obsessed over pink and gold like me? Kinda YEAH! But what if her bump was a boy? What it comes down to is HEALTHY, right? She SO agreed! That’s really all that matters. Does she want to add more pink to her life? um YEAH! But does she want a HEALTHY baby? YESSSSS! That’s what matters.
Perspective. Love me some BLING. BOY do I love me some bling, don’t get me started. On ME. All over me. Let the bling just DRIP all over. Bring it on. On my house? OH yeah. But, so funny, once I let it go, I felt free. Crazy. I know. Because at the end of the day, it didn’t matter.
Now…. tomorrow shall I talk to you about all the earrings I NEED TO PURCHASE that I missed out on the past 6 weeks? 🙂 HA!
