Have you ever come across something you totally did not expect but it blew your mind with happiness? Such was the case with my recent visit to the Dallas Galleria Mall. I was there for a weekend getaway with my family for our traditional OU vs TX football trip, staying at the Westin, and we pull up and I see a sign that said “fashion exhibition”. I said wait what?
Sure enough, I looked closer and be still my heart. It was an art exhibition featuring all things fashion from the 70s.
If you love vintage fashion as much as I do, this exhibit will only be available until November 1st!
So I have always had a passion for fashion. I haven’t ever considered The OP Life a fashion blog because I talk about so much more than fashion. However, it’s probably one of my most favorite fun things. And what I love most about fashion is not about what’s just the hottest current trends, but I love unique senses of style, and I love how history plays a role in what we wear today and current trends. You see, I’m a child of the 70s. So all of these things I got to see took me on a stroll down memory lane, and it was the most amazing afternoon I spent, soaking up all of this amazing fashion.
I won’t bore you with all of my editorial, but I’ll let you see for yourself what I’m talking about.
Remember… This was a totally unexpected surprise, as if Santa Claus came early with the biggest gift under the tree for me! I was there alone with my camera phone and jaw dropped the entire time.
So interesting!
I not only loved the fashions I got to see but I enjoyed how it was put together. My senses were exploding in delight! The music took me way back. There were large screens in different sections with TV shows playing, all of which I remembered. It was so nostalgic, I can’t even put into words the happiness it brought to me. There were large disco balls hanging from the ceilings. Not only for those memories but because I loved seeing how I could easily wear any number of pieces displayed even today. For several reasons. For one, I’ve always preached to all of you, BE UNIQUE! meaning, don’t wear what everyone else is wearing all the time. Be different! That’s having your own sense of style. The second thing I appreciated was styles that were popular then have evolved again. But, depending on your sense of unique and individual style, that really doesn’t matter. I

I have one shoulder tops I wore ten years ago before anyone was wearing, and felt different in a crowd. Now it’s current. But look at the bell sleeves, the bold colors, the rich patterns and textures, the chiffon, the draping of the fabrics, the accessories…. See similarities?
I had to share this gem with all of you to enjoy. If you’re in the Dallas area, go see it and look at it through my rose colored glasses. See it for the art and how it’s influenced today’s styles, and have an appreciation for where all of what we wear today evolved from.
