Today’s Fuzzy Friday concoction is fit for a crowd. This weekend with the Superbowl festivities, I thought it was only fit to share one of my favorite and easiest things to make for a crowd. The Sangria. In this case, the “Superbowl Sunday Sangria”.
This is simple, fresh, fruity, goes with the spread of smorgasbord that will be upon us to feast. Sigh. Ya ok… well, saying that this has fruit in it, does that make this healthy and diet friendly? {wink!} We can think what we want to think, right?
Sangria isn’t too complicated. It’s tossing some fresh fruits, mixing it up with some beverages, letting the flavors blend over the course of time, and voila. It’s truly the ideal drink for a crowd and easy for the hostess.
Other than of course your usual beer and wine. {grin.}
Sangría Clásica
(makes one pitcher)
4-6 oz. Spanish brandy
3-4 oz. triple sec or orange-based liquor
2-3 Tbs sugar
Slices apples and oranges
4-6 oz. club soda
One bottle (750ml) red or white Spanish wine (for red, a tempranillo; for white a verdejo)
The night before you plan to serve the sangría, mix the brandy, triple sec, sugar and fruit in a bowl and leave overnight. Just before you plan to serve, stir mix to make sure the sugar has dissolved. Transfer to a pitcher, add the wine and club soda and serve over ice.
