Beautiful and organized closets are one of my obsessions. I don’t know why that is, but it is. Maybe because it’s such a personal space and seeing it all organized is kinda feng shui and brings a sense of zen to us, especially with things we love in that space. I can’t say that my closet is always the most organized. For me, usually, it means once a week it gets picked up because the rest of the days I’m in frantic busy mode and I’m changing my mind on what I’m going to wear, all along, I wear my usual “standard uniform”. {lol!} But that’s a whole other blog post!
Last week, Lisa Adams from LA Closet Design, took over the Instagram of Elle Decor and gave lots of great advice to followers’ questions. So I’ve decided to share some of those Q & A’s with you.
“FIND A WAY TO HAVE EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE, EVERYTHING SEEN AT FIRST GLANCE AND REDUCE THE CLUTTER.”
Q: What is the top must-have in your closet?
A: Valet pull-out hooks! They are perfect for staging, packing or for incoming dry cleaning.
Q: What is the one closet component you would invest in for the easiest closet organization?
A: Drawer inserts. There is nothing better than opening a drawer and seeing everything in its place.
Q: What clothes should be hung and which clothes should be folded?
A: Fold intimates, socks, pj’s, swim, sweaters (unless you use sweater hangers) and hang the rest if you can.
Q: How should shoes be displayed?
A: I like shoes at an angle for easy viewing or on a pull-out if you have the depth.
Q: What’s the best way to store each type of shoe?
A: I use a boot rod for hanging boots in boot trees, flat shelves for flats and wedges and angled shelves for heels. I am not a fan of keeping them in their boxes because shoes should be seen and worn.
Q: Should I continue keeping all of my handbags that are on shelves in their dust bags or is that unnecessary?
A: I understand the importance of keeping purses dust free, but I am a bigger proponent of seeing and wearing all purses. Keep dust bags in the purses or keep them on with top of bags showing so you can see every bag. Use in good health.
Q: What is the best way to store your pants and jeans?
A: Hanging them long would be best but that depends on size. If you’re folding jeans, make sure you fold so you can easily see and tell jeans apart.
