Now, onto more serious matters at hand… our waistline!
We are in the thick of holiday celebrations and that means food, food, and MORE food (and drink!). So how do we walk away from this festive season without adding pounds? Some tips I’ve put together….
1. Eat breakfast, and one full of protein. Protien will help keep you fuller longer. Carbs will burn through you faster, which will make you hungrier sooner. So stick with a protien breakfast to ward off mid morning munchies and to prevent you from starving by the time lunch hits.
2. Make smart choices. Enjoy the “special” things that you don’t normally have and that are your parties, events and gatherings. Indulge in those smoked salmon mousse crostinis, or those extra special desserts. Chocolate chip cookies and bowls of candy, WALK ON BY. Those are things that you can have any time of the year!
3. Liquid treats have count too! That means that those cocktails add up. They aren’t water! Just another “add on”. Think about how many you have and when and where.
4. That’s ok if your parking space isn’t close to the doors… those extra steps mean EXTRA CALORIES burned. It might not seem like much, but I guarantee if you keep moving more, those extra treats and drinks that you had will not stay in your system. Keep moving!!
5. Do the best that you can. Be forgiving of yourself if you do splurge. And if you do splurge big time one day, then the next day, start of RIGHT by making smart choices.
The whole point of this is THIS….
If we allow ourselves to gain a mere 5 pounds every holiday season, that would mean 50 pounds over 10 years! That’s a LOT (especially for someone like me who is vertically challenged!). So, I hope this puts it all into perspective. For me, it’s always a challenge because I gain weight JUST by looking at food, so it’s something I constantly live with. I’m not one of those naturally thin people, and the FOOD thing is in my culture and heritage.
Now I know I’m DEFINITELY not perfect. This time of year IS the time that we are all drawn to warm, cozy, comfort food I think most. So every so often I have had those hormonal cravings and I might have posted a recipe or two that weren’t THAT healthy. Take it, make it, and move on!
And if all else fails, I have a Pinterest board that I call FITNESS INSPIRATION that I can go to to look at their bodies and say “aaaahhhhhh yes… maybe one day I can look like THAT????” {wink!}
A few for you here…
We can all dream to look like that, right?
