Here is a teeny tiny sampling of what is in my home still leftover from Halloween. It’s combined leftovers from what I bought for the trick or treaters along with all the stuff my kiddos picked up along the way. I need to chunk it, donate it, do SOMETHING with it. Of course, like so many things, I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
So there it sits in these big bowls, one in my kitchen, another in my laundry room, another in my mud room. Like giant bowls. So in comes the will power.
Now for me, candy has never really been a HUGE thing for me. To be quite honest, I crave savory things more than spicy. Give me some stuffed mushroom caps or crab cakes in a heartbeat to dessert. But, passing this bowl every so often and popping a piece in our mouths is something I’m SURE you can relate to, right? Even if this isn’t at your house, I bet some co-worker decided to bring her batch to work to share among her peeps to get rid of it at her place…. how SWEET of her! LOL!
So, let’s think for a moment… if you pass by this bowl and grab one of those goodies that might have 60 calories in it… like 5 times in a day, that’s 300 calories. Do this every day, in 5 days, that’s 1500 calories. Times a few weeks… you get my point.
So now I want you to think like this. Is it really worth it. I mean don’t get me wrong. I might have a tiny Three Musketeers as a morsel of sweetness after dinner, but that’s it. (FYI those are the lowest calorie chocolate candies in the bunch… I did my homework!) But all those mindless muchies on this stuff… or ANY at that matter… I mean, you DO know we are entering a season to FEAST upon. Thanksgiving, then Christmas (or Hanukah), then New Years, then Super Bowl (yes I add that in too!). Sooooooo we (meaning I) need to watch all these meaningless snacks that aren’t really worth it. Right?
So here’s the deal. What ever THIN feels like to you, mentally get yourself to FEEL what that feels like. Close your eyes for a moment in a quiet space and feel what that feels like. If this isn’t an issue for you, then congratulations! But if having this stuff lying around is a temptation and an issue, just as yourself, “Is it worth it?”. And then remember how that “thin moment” felt. Because all those bites, licks and tastes add up. The more of this junk you consume, the less of that “thin” you’ll probably feel in the end.
Just sayin y’all!
Tis the season for some nom nom. Let the festivities begin! Ha!
