Dancing With the Stars is a show that is pretty safe to have on the tv with my kiddos around, compared to so much other stuff that is out there. It’s a show that I have on in the background while we are doing are different things, not one that I’m hooked on and must watch week-to-week. However tonight, it caught my attention and moved me. One of the contestants, Valerie Harper, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last winter, but is not letting that slow her down.
Valerie is best known for her roles in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda amongst a list of many more.
Now, this iconic woman of the 70’s leaves us her mark with her beautiful strong-willed dance steps on her appearance of Dancing With the Stars.
When I heard this coming from the family room, I quickly came in to watch intently. She did not want the judges to rate her based upon her illness, but instead on her ability and talent she displayed on the dance floor. Her courageousness to pursue this and dance with discomfort and pain is so moving and inspirational.
Her story is so inspiring and is a reminder to all of us to live life to its fullest. She’s clearly not letting this illness control her. What an example for all of us.
You can see a clip of her exclusive interview with Meredith Viera HERE from the Today Show. I will be watching Valerie and cheering her on the whole way through.
