Amidst all the hype of Black Friday, an influx of emails of SALE mail, and now this new Brown Thursday (which is a NEW term, where stores open on Thursday (yes ON Thanksgiving), and are literally open a full 24 hours to get a head start on Black Friday… Something that makes me sad for the employees when they could be with their families… ), (SERIOUSLY PEOPLE????) I find it very REFRESHING to enjoy the likes of keeping it local and shopping Small Business Saturday.
I’m aware that local to YOU may not be local to ME. (The beauty of the internet, right? We are GLOBAL, baby!!) But I spent some time in the community shopping local, and I thought I’d share some gems I found that would make great gifts for many.
Agate desk accessories…..
… and LOVELY lucite tape dispensers with even LOVELIER Washi Tape from No Regrets.
Redecorating for the holidays? This chair totally caught my eye at Emory Anne’s Interiors…
Orchids anyone? Or even a darling arrangement in a box that doubles as a thought. That is called a Thot Box 😉 from The Fleuriste.
Um, Hello Hunk for my tree!! That would be a whole assortment of fabulous MerMen! Is that not HYSTERICAL!!!
…. and to go with that, a winter wonderland of HAPPINESS and gifts galore at Luxe Objects.
The CUTEST ice bags for headaches or booboos….
and Serenity + Scott cosmetic line, new to The MakeUp Bar and exclusively their’s in Oklahoma City.
Beautiful books for any living room table….
unique gifts for the little ones (like classic books made into children’s counting books…. )
…. special ties and bow ties for the gents…
and some fun playing cards (which I picked up a few for gifts myself! All of these delights from Plenty Mercantile.
These are only a sampling of some of the great stores we have that provide us with unique items and great service. There are SO many more I’d write about, but keep plugged in with me…. I sprinkle them in throughout the year!
One of the things I enjoyed about shopping around was spending fun quality time with my daughter, too. It brought me back fond memories of shopping with parents growing up. All BEFORE the internet existed, before we had cell phones, we TALKED, and laughed and enjoyed each other. So not only is shopping local so good for our community, but it’s so great for relationships, too. And getting to know your local shop owners, that’s just like “the olden days” as my kids call it…. um, THANKS, kids. {I’m not THAT old!}
There’s a time and place to shop online… and always a time and place to shop at home, around the corner.
Happy Shopping!
