Paying a small homage to my daddy for Father’s Day. Now that I’m not only an adult, but a parent too, I see that not everyone was lucky enough to have parents like I had. If you don’t know me, or if you couldn’t tell by now, I am an only child, and YES, not ashamed to admit I’m a princess! But not in a spoiled way….. I come from a modest background and was never just GIVEN anything ever….In fact, life was quite the opposite. But it was because I was just always was loved and treated like I was so special by my parents. Not everyone is as blessed as I’ve been. So for that I’m so thankful to have such a wonderful man to call Dad.
When i was a little girl, one of my teachers asked us to tell them who was our hero. Without a blink, i replied, MY DAD.
Thank you Dad for taking me for ice cream….
for taking me to McDonald’s for lunch on Saturdays….
for taking me to Oak Brook shopping and buying me those beautiful velvet dresses….
for pushing me so hard when I hated Geometry to come to understand and now LOVE math!….
for threatening to call the police when i forged your name in second grade with the orange marker after writing sentences for talking too much in class (somethings never change!)….
for taking us on vacation every summer, where so many could not, and not only that, taking us numerous times back to our motherland so I could love our Greek heritage……
for buying the Greek newspaper and making me read it to you, which made me learn on my own how to read and write Greek….
for teaching me chess….
for being the best patient as I wrapped your “broken arms” with the rolls of toilet paper….
for putting up with me talking non stop on Saturday mornings when all you wanted to do was sleep in late, and your “quiet, the baby is sleeping game” really didn’t work….
for teaching me that RESPECT is one of the most important things you can have, both for yourself and others….
for teaching me good work ethic….
for teaching me both with you and mom how to be a parent by being the BEST examples for me, whether I knew it then
or not…
for teaching me both with you and mom how through our belief in God, we can endure anything….
I’m so lucky to have you.
Happy Father’s Day Daddy!!!
