Hello, weekend! It’s time for #FuzzyFriday!
Today I’m sharing a twist on a traditional classic, the Tom Collins. I’m incorporating fresh basil into a homemade syrup to bring on that fresh flavor. I personally love to make my simple syrups at home, and this was so refreshing and delicious. I always keep fresh basil on my windowsill in a coffee mug of all places! It’s kinda goofy but I don’t mind it.
Basil Tom Collins
- 2 handfuls fresh basil leaves
- 1 cup simple syrup
- gin
- fresh lemons
- club soda or sparkling water
- ice
In a silver bullet, add the basil to the syrup and whiz it up until the leaves are finely chopped. Run the mixture through a strainer to collect any larger leaves, if you desire. If not, it will be processed enough that it will be so fine it won’t matter. Your basil infused simple syrup is now finished, see notes for storage.
Fill a glass with ice. Pour in 2 ounces of gin, 1 ounce basil infused simple syrup and juice from 1/2 lemon. Give it a gentle stir and top with club soda or sparkling water.
Do your proportions to taste. I did equal amounts of the syrup and gin and it’s SO amazing. Like ummmm… very tasty! {wink} Using fresh herbs in cocktails makes it to fresh and refreshing and you know you’re not getting a premade mix with a bunch of junk. It’s a “wholesome” cocktail, right? HA!
So what are come of your wins for the week? Comment below! I’d love to hear so I can raise my glass to YOU!
Happy weekend!
