I cherry pick the women I have had on my Women On Purpose series. I select women I admire, respect their work ethic, how they run their business, how they treat others, and really look at them as “the package deal”. It’s not about who is making a ton of money or has a bazillion followers, but who is living their dreams, following their passions, and loving life and loving others, making a difference in the lives of others. You guys have NO IDEA how excited I am to share this sweet girl with you!
I first got acquainted with Erin Bowman years ago when I fell in love with her song King Boy, which was the 5th most played song on Sirius XM 20 on 20 in 2011. I actually posted a glimpse of my son singing and dancing to it in the car and she tweeted back to me.

We kept in touch and I’ve been following her pursuing her dreams in being a top singer and recording artist. I’d say she is definitely on her way!

Erin Bowman, when growing up, always aspired to be a singer. It wasn’t until she signed with a producer at the age of 18 that she was introduced to songwriting. Erin’s first song began with a concept and melody her producer had. He then asked Erin to create some lyrics. Surprising herself, Erin completed the song, and with the undeniably catchy chorus, “You know what your problem is, you think you don’t have a problem”, the song became her first single. The single, “Problem” was added to Sirius XM 20 on 20, and in two weeks was a top 5 requested song. In addition, “Problem” was placed on Oxygen’s “The Bad Girls Club” and E’s “Kourtney & Khloe”.
Erin’s next single, “King Boy”, co-written with producer, Henry Hey, became the 5th most played song of 2013 for Sirius XM 20 on 20. This activity caught the attention of a few major publishing companies resulting in Erin writing with a variety of producers. The first published producer with whom Erin wrote was Larzz Principato with Warner Chappell. They co-wrote “Hey Summer,” Erin’s first single to receive airplay from a large radio chain. The song was so successful on Cumulus’s 93Q in Syracuse, it debuted in the top 20 on Shazam’s local market report. Singing along to every word of “Hey Summer,” a nostalgic summer song inspired by Erin’s own personal experiences, the crowd at Syracuse’s Summer Jam clearly related to every word being sung. Later Erin and Principato wrote and recorded ‘Keep Me Warm.” Ten days later “Keep Me Warm” debuted during the 7th game of the World Series for a national McDonald’s TV campaign. “Keep Me Warm” went on to receive airplay at Top 40, Hot AC and AC radio. Since it’s release in 2014, “Keep Me Warm” continues to receive airplay in all three formats every holiday season.
Along with working on her artist project, Erin found herself in sessions writing specifically for synch. Some of the more successful synch songs include “We Make It Happen” co-written with Chris Umana of Kobalt and Colby O’Donis of Sony/ATV. It was placed on NBC’s “Telenovela,” MTV’s “Are You The One?,” Oxygen’s “The Bad Girls Club,” and Oxygen’s “The Prancing Elites Project.” “Turning Heads” also co-written with Umana and O’Donis was used for a “Back to School” Shoe Carnival national TV campaign. “Bad Boys” synched with a cars.com national TV campaign in the summer of 2016.
In the summer of 2016, Erin was signed to Kobalt Music and released “Good Time Good Life”, co-written with Umana & O Donis. It debuted on NBC’s “This Is Us”’, opened an episode of CBS’s “Hawaii Five-0”, was featured in Target’s Thanksgiving national TV campaign, and selected by The Academy of Motion PIcture Arts and Sciences to drive The Oscars 2017 promo aired on ABC TV network!! Erin made her national TV debut on Good Morning America and performed for the Radio Disney Music Awards on April 29th. 2017 is shaping up to be a great year for Erin Bowman!
1. When did you begin your music career? How did you know singing was something you wanted to do?
For my 5th grade yearbook I put “singer” as my career goal. I was what, 10 years old?! But even before that I knew I wanted to be a singer. Something about music always felt right. In high school when everyone was deciding on which college they wanted to attend I was trying to figure out exactly what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to pursue music but how do you pursue music? Still trying to figure that out haha!
But I told my parents I wanted to put college on hold to become a pop star… they didn’t even flinch. I have had their support since day 1. I graduated high school and started auditioning for anything I could find… girl groups looking for a new member, songwriters looking for a demo singer, producers looking for a new artist to record new music, etc. I went to countless auditions and meetings most of which were a waste of time. But then I met a producer who I clicked with immediately. I recorded songs he had written and eventually started writing with him. My first single “Problem” was the first song I had ever been a part of writing.
2. What were some of the challenges you had to overcome along the way and how What did you overcome them? (As you stepped into the music business?)
Getting people to believe in you and your project is the biggest challenge. This business can be so frustrating and so tough. Luckily I’ve always had thick skin (for the most part) so that makes it a little easier to handle. When you hear successful people say that they heard a million no’s before they heard one yes they aren’t lying. That’s not made up, it it VERY legitimate. You hear no constantly. People don’t like your music, they don’t like your look, they don’t “get it.” I’ve learned that you have to do what feels right for you and be confident about the stuff you put out and do and someone someday will “get it.” It takes 1 yes from the right person to change your life.
3. When you are preparing for a show / performance what gives you the biggest push before you perform?
I’m not sure if anything before the performance gives me the biggest push. I think the biggest push is when you get out on stage and you see how excited the crowd is. People love music and as a performer you can see that every time you get on stage. The audience is a huge part of the show. Performers feed off their energy.
4. What do you do/Where do you go/How do you find inspiration for your music?
Everyday life! Sometimes it’s as simple as the way you feel when you wake up in the morning. Other times it can be something you see your friends going through, good or bad. Sometimes you’re sitting in a writing session starting from scratch and a cool word like “drool” pops into your head. “Drool” was a single I put out last year. Inspiration for music can come from so many different places.
5. To what do you attribute most of your success?
Not giving up. I know this is what I’m supposed to do and I could have given up after the first couple singles didn’t do much but I didn’t because I know it’s going to happen. I know that if I keep writing and working on new music that good things will come my way cause they have. And I hope they continue to!! 🙂
6. How do you live life On Purpose?
I live life on purpose by making music I’m excited about!! And hoping other people will be excited about it too. I live life on purpose by trying new things and just putting my best self out there.
7. What advice would you offer any young woman looking to start something of their own, be it a business or a talent like this?
Don’t give up. As long as you’re doing something you believe in and feel confident about, you’re doing the right thing. Ignore the people who don’t “get it.” Keep the people who do close.
