We had a teeny tiny peek of spring like weather not long ago, which means warmer weather is just around the corner. And for ME, I know that means MORE SKIN will be showing! YIKES! Scary! HA! Time to REALLY get that laser beam focus on the diet and get as swimsuit ready as we can. So I thought I’d share some healthy advice from the archives….
Do you read the labels on the foods you eat? And make your decision to eat it or buy it after looking at it? What if there was a tool that could help you determine how good the food is for you by the label? How filling it is? Let me introduce you to my favorite health and nutrition website, SelfNutritionData.
Across the top, next to this:
you’ll see a field to enter a food to search. So, type in any food you wish! They have generic listings as well as brand name and restaurant foods. In addition to the food label, you’ll see several SUPER cool tables that analyze the item. This you guys, is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE thing EVER as far as exploring how good a food might be for you.
Now, let me just give you a quick disclaimer that I am not a nutritionist by any means. I’m just a normal gal, who is 5’1” and because I’m vertically challenged, I have to be to be focused on weight because I can look at food and gain weight just like that. BAM! Not to mention I just entered my 4th decade of life this year. So the engine I think might be running a bit slower than those perky 25 year olds, right? So any tools that can help me are a HUGE plus. Well, labels are quite telling but not as telling as this uber cool graph. Here is why I love this particular food label page…. this REALLY nifty graph that indicates where a food falls based on its 1. “fill factor” and 2. nutritious value.
Basically, you enter your food item you’re looking for…. let’s say SPINACH for example. Then you’d scroll to find specifically your spinach (raw uncooked?). Select it again, and BAM! It will not only throw out a nutritional label/content, but it would spew out all this wealth of information on it, including this AWESOME graph. So ideally, it would be best to find something in the top right quadrant, as tippy top as you can get to that corner, right? I dare you to click on this site right HERE and enter your favorite food (well, maybe not FAVORITE but one you might be most curious of!), and check it out and see where it falls in this graph.
What is the first thing you’re going to look up? It’s kinda fun and interesting don’t ya think?
