This is a dilemma I have had for a long time. I’ll say that this is probably the most organized part of my closet. My shoes. I have had them in boxes with pictures on the front of the clear shoe boxes now for quite some time, and this system has been working ok. However, I’ve noticed that I’m running out of space. Actually, let me rewind. I already RAN out of space and added MORE shelving to accommodate more shoes and boots, so then now what?
Ok…. did I just answer my own question there???? LOL!!!! Um… I guess the obvious would be to GET RID of some! HA! Well… those are issues to be addressed very soon, in the likes of more than just my shoes. But let’s leave that for another post….
Here’s a snapshot of what I’m talkin about….
Pardon the mess and the slight blur…. but you get my drift? I have TOO much stuff, yes…. and that’s something I’m working on… but still. Doesn’t answer my question. In the box or out of the box?
I recently took a peek into one of my dearest friend’s closets which really inspired me to minimize AND organize. We’ll talk more on that later…. but for now, the shoes. Not only hers, but so many other closets I’ve admired on Pinterest are the shoes out and exposed (one facing one way, the other the other). My issue I have with it is that they will get dusty. Poo! But the flip side is, there is WAY more room on the shelves! Those boxes take up WAY too much room. Let me show you what I’m talking about ….

Aren’t these to die for?
So now you see my thought? These are TOTALLY beautiful (and they are way ABOVE my league!) but why can’t we all have a lovely dressing space, right? I wonder if their closets have a shoe smell as well…. I know that by keeping them sealed in boxes makes for a shoe-less scent! HA!
You’re thoughts? In the box or out of the box?

Great post! I’m currently in the box but moving out soon. When they’re in the boxes I tend to forget I have certain ones and never wear them. Thanks for these ideas. I’ll send a photo when I’ve updated my storage space.
Until then,

I’m an out of the box girl. I look at my pretty shoes as pieces of art; so I want to see them. And dust???
Let’s just hire someone to dust them… I think that’s what all the owners of your example do.

Ahhhh… Ok. I feel that way with my purses and jewelry! 🙂 I’m not kidding you, it’s SICK! LOL! … and yup, you’re right! They can bring us bon bons when they’re done, right? HA!

PS – You may be addicted to shoes!

Believe it or not, I do love shoes, but my true love (addiction) is jewelry and purses. If you only knew. 🙁 More to come on that front.. *sigh* … and Mary above, I feel this way… If I could have them on glass shelves, I WOULD with spotlights! HA!
Pathetic.

Definitely a dilemma for women lucky and blessed to have many shoes and bags!! I change out according to each season and rotate between several closets. Still not the answer and would love to convert one room into one closet via California Closets etc…however, still not the ideal for reselling a house! Due to space and size of heels etc I do not have them stored in the see through plastic bins and instead have them out of their boxes. They are color coordinated and displayed on the shelves accordingly…same with handbags and small clutches and evening bags stored in plastic bins and built in drawers. It would be perfect if I could have the rest of hubbies space in the closet! 🙂 I love all of the photos posted Irene and have an entire board devoted to closets…I am sure..even these women struggle wight he same dilemma….:)

Out of the box makes for a much prettier closet and will make you love your closet and the things in it even more. Plus, MINIMIZE! MINIMIZE! MINIMIZE! In recent years, I have to come to decide I can be just as happy with less. Why do I need 10+ pairs of black heels? Having less has been much less stressful and the weight of when I am going to wear all these things has been lifted. I love what I have kept, therefore, when I dress, I love what I am wearing.

I agree with Angela…I have definitely given much more thought to recent purchases and have purged my closets of bags, shoes etc…several times over…less is MORE!! 🙂
