It’s Motivational Monday, and today, let’s motivate ourselves to have a more positive state of mind!
When we watch the news, and even pursue social media feeds, it’s easy to get depressed. I shared some thoughts regarding social media and all we do with that HERE. So many bad events taking place around the world, and more and more people sharing the negative opinions on Facebook and elsewhere make it a lot more difficult to stay positive.
To help us out, I thought I’d share some ideas for ways of improving our state of mind.
1. Remind yourself of your positive qualities.
Next time you see a photo of someone else that appears to have it all together, and those negative thoughts start to fill your head, shift your thoughts to what it is you do like about yourself. Sometimes it takes a little bit of time to actually think of what we like about ourselves because we so rarely think about it, but give it a try and then make it a regular part of your life.
2. Remind yourself of the positive qualities of others.
It’s one thing to find positive thoughts about ourselves, but let’s face it, sometimes it’s more difficult to think of positives about others – especially those that get on our last nerve. But it can be done. And did you know that if you make yourself think about someone’s positive qualities, you actually start to like them more? Next time someone gets on your last nerve, find something positive about them and concentrate on that. It’ll be a much better way to handle your time with them.
3. Avoid the negative.
If the news, radio, social media or certain shows depress you, then turn them off! Spend your time focused on something that will actually fill your mind with positives rather than negatives. Take a sabbatical from those things that upset you the most and see what a difference it makes in your life.
4. Change the tape that plays in your mind.
Our minds almost play a tape on replay. We think the same thoughts over and over again, and most of the time, those thoughts aren’t positive. Change the tape! Think happy, positive thoughts. Use the steps ahead to start to change what’s inscribed on the tape, but go even further. Listen to positive music. Watch positive, funny and hopeful videos. Live on purpose, to find ways to improve what enters your mind!
Today, I encourage all of us to make the decision to improve our frame of mind, and take the necessary steps to accomplish our goal. I believe we’ll all be better off for it… and much happier!
