This weekend is Father’s Day. I’m beyond beyond beyond fortunate to have my dad still around with me and to say that he was an amazing father growing up. So today I’m toasting to dads and the men that fulfill that father figure role to our kids. I’ve selected a classic drink that men have loved for generations. It’s not anything super fancy. It’s a timeless classic. The Whiskey Sour.
Whiskey Sour
- 2 ounces whiskey — bourbon
- 2/3 ounce lemon juice (like half a lemon)
- 1 teaspoon superfine sugar (I prefer more)
Shake the bourbon, lemon juice and sugar well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass (unless you happen to have a Sour glass). I serve it on the rocks.
This isn’t meant to be a fancy drink with an umbrella. This is the “he had a long day at work” drink. But it’s still simple, easy to make, doesn’t take much in the form of staples to have in the kitchen and in the bar, and is always reliable.
My dad never was a big drinker after work, but when he would ever have a cocktail, he’d have this or a vodka gimlet. Today I’m saying cheers to all the men in our lives that have molded us and guided us and nurtured us and loved us.
This picture was taken on a milestone birthday of mine. No matter how old I get, I’ll always be daddy’s girl.
Cheers to the weekend! Cheers to dad! #drinkresponsibly
