You should hold a dance party for one. Really? Yes, really. Why???
Honestly, part of me can’t even believe I’m asking that question! Why should we hold a dance party for one? Because they’re fun of course, and lets face it, we could all use a little bit more fun in our life. Or a lot more fun.
I have a confession to make. A few weeks ago, I was sick at home with strep throat, alone, watching the Super Bowl, while the gang was at a party living it up. As I was sitting on the sofa, just wrapping up a Periscope, I look up, and here comes Coldplay with the halftime show. Not only were they amazing, but here comes Bruno Mars and Beyonce. I jumped out of my comfy place on the sofa, and in my pj’s, began to bust a move, jammed out…. all by myself watching the Super Bowl halftime show. True story.
And you know what? I felt AMAAAAAAZING! How did I look? Like a complete GOOFball I’m sure… no bra, in my pjs, coughing and red nose, but I was in my own little happy place. Did I care what I looked like? um NO. I was alone and happy and dancing and having FUN!
Okay, okay – I know, fun is a given. But how often do you actually dance? I’d guess you don’t dance enough, and my goal today is to change that by giving you more reasons to cut a rug from time to time.
Great way to start the day.
There’s nothing better than starting the day with some great tunes to put you in a good mood. So crank up the jams when you’re getting ready, in the shower, getting dressed and just moving around getting your day started. It gets everything started on the right foot!
Great exercise and helps with weight loss.
Thanks to all of the newer technologies out there, we can spend a lot of our time sitting. We sit to watch television. We sit to work on our computers. We sit to text. We sit for our Netflix marathons. We do a lot of sitting and every so often, we need to make sure we have a great reason to get up and move. The more you move, the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn the more weight you loose. That’s like a triple bonus!
Reduces stress and diminishes depression.
Just a few minutes a day of turning up the volume on your favorite songs and dancing like no one is looking increases endorphins, which improve our state of mind. The movement can loosen tight muscles that are so often an affect of stress and anxiety, and focusing on the rhythm and your moves can clear the mind of negative thoughts and attitudes.
Increases energy.
The more energy you expel, the more energy you have. After just a few dance parties, you’ll start to realize that you’ve got more and more energy and are able to dance longer and longer without wearing out.
Makes household chores more enjoyable.
This isn’t scientific or anything, but I’d be willing to bet that it’s absolutely true. Nothing like a little boot scootin’ boogie while we’re vacuuming or dusting, so why not conquer several birds with one stone? Clean. Dance. Get exercise. Feel better. And my guess is you’d finish your chores more quickly too!
Remember my story about dancing during the halftime show? I felt energized, happy, lifted my spirits, and my guess is I burned a couple of calories… more than sitting on the sofa!
Next time you’re feeling down and need a pick me up, or if you’re looking for a fun way to lose a little weight – throw on your music and dance! You’ll have a great time and your body will thank you for it.
