I’m not a pot roast kinda gal, but I know it’s a good meaty, hearty kinda meal, especially perfect for those cold evenings. And because I’m not a huge pot roast kinda gal, I thought I’d try this recipe a dear friend of mine shared with me. A family recipe passed down from generations, I can see why its a huge hit with their family and why it’s easy as pie.
If you’re looking for something to make that you can put it in crockpot and forget it with little prep work, this is your meal.
Serve it with some potatoes on the side and you’re golden.
The Best Pot Roast
- 1 chuck roast or rump roast
- 1 package dry ranch mix
- 1 package dry Au Jus Gravy mix
- 1 stick butter
- 7 whole pepperocinis
Place butter on top of dry mixes. Place peppers on top of roast around the stick of butter. Add NO water. Cook on low for 8 hrs, or on auto, then enjoy.
So… you know I’m Greek, right? Well, if any dish has some good saucy sauce to it, Greeks dip bread in it. So here’s what The Mister ended up doing the evening that I made this… like the ENTIRE evening saying, “holy sh*t!” … dip more bread… more words coming out of his mouth. At one point, I saw an entire slice of bread FLYING in the air across the island into the crock pot as if he were making a basket. Followed by, “MAN this is some good sh*t!”
(pieces of bread broken up in the pot of sauce before the entire slice made it in… I wasn’t fast enough to catch that one!)
So if you’d like that kinda response from your family, make this. I told you this was the best pot roast ever. (wink!)

When I make pot roast, I use 2 roasts bc my kids are huge eaters. Do you think I should double this recipe? That seems like a lot of butter if I would….

Hi Kim!
I agree! Too much butter! but I’d take one stick of butter and divide it onto both pieces of meat if you’re using 2. This made quite a bit of sauce, so you could be just fine dividing it up amongst both. It might not be as much left for dipping or pouring over, but I’d start there for a start!
Let me know how it goes! Thanks for reading!
