Most everyone who knows me knows that I try to make OP decisions on food and drink to be as healthy and lean as I can. And, I’m also getting my tush back into the gym as much as I can on a regular basis (when I’m not playing nurse to my kiddos!). Well, Santa Claus seemed to catch wind of this, so he brought me a Fitbit for Christmas. I had heard of them and seen tons of devices out there that are worn to monitor activity, steps, etc, but I truly never entertained the thought of wearing one. I mean, me? Wear a rubbery thing? So not my style. Nothing against these things, but remember, you’re talking to the girl who didn’t play sports because I didn’t want to sweat and get “icky”. In addition, having a device like this was just one more thing to keep up with, right?
Wrong. I was wrong about myself.
Days after Christmas had passed I decided I might as well set this new gadget up and at least give it a try, right? I had nothing to lose. Well, I have to say I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I’ll tell you how I’ve been using it as a newbie as I’m gradually getting into this thing.
First you can track things on your phone as well as your computer via bluetooth. So in case you’re wondering how all that’s done, that’s how. Here’s how one of my days looked.
I’m tracking my steps per day, and with that miles walked. I’m not necessarily TRACKING as much as checking and always trying to do better and better. For me, that works. Rather than just try to jump into the 10,000 steps right away, I am at least seeing what my daily average is to have some baseline of what I’m doing on a daily basis. I will say, however, since I’ve had it, my weeks have been anything but average… from being on my feet for 12 hours working wearing my other hat with my daughter, to being a stay at home nurse, I’ve had one extreme to the next. And that’s ok. It’s giving me some knowledge of my activity. As life gets back to normal, I’ll see more consistency in addition to me pushing myself to do more.
I’m tracking my sleep. Yes sleep. Did you know it did that? I certainly didn’t! It’s kinda cool to see how restless we are at night, some of us are WAY more than others! {a-HEM!} So that’s always interesting to see how many times you were up and tossing and turning.
I’m not tracking food on it or weight or anything like that. Although I’m a HUGE fan of food journals, for me personally, anything digitally isn’t my first choice. I prefer an old fashioned notebook and pen.
Now let’s talk about the fashion part of it. Remember how I said the thought of me wearing a rubber thing next to my watch (because you’re supposed to wear it on your NON-dominant hand) didn’t turn me on? Well, lo and behold. There’s a solution to that!
Tory Burch makes several covers for them, in gold and silver.
I’m a gold person, even though the watch I wear mostly isn’t, my ring is. And mixing things up is what I like anyways, so I gave it a whirl.
I can’t shower with it like I can by itself in the rubber band, and I prefer to not sleep with it either because it’s a bit heavy, but I do like it. The heaviness of it layered with my watch is only an issue when I am working on my laptop. But truly, when I do, everything on my wrists come off, even my watch. But now… when I have just the rubber band on, I keep it on all the time, only making the occasional switch to the gold bangle, and when it’s on, I don’t even notice.
If you haven’t heard or seen all the things that the Fitbit can do, you can check out all the details at Fitbit.com.
So for someone who really wasn’t interested, I became a fan. I do love it and whether or not I’ll use more of its features remains to be seen. But for now, it’s a constant reminder of my goals. Instead of a piece of string tied around my finger, I have my Fitbit.
Do you have a Fitbit? What do you love most about it?

Irene! I loved this post!!! I got a pink rubber fitbit for my birthday (this last Sept.) and loved it. I stopped wearing it because I didn’t like wearing the rubber band with some of my dressy clothes for work. Tory Burch solved all my problems 🙂 I have the gold bracelet and wear it every single day!!!

How has the Tory Burch bracelet held up for you? I love that you have yours stacked with a lovely watch. I was worried that wearing bracelets on both arms would be too much, but your photo did it justice and so much more. Thanks for sharing!
