It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been here sharing all kinds of things, but as we all know, the holidays just passed us by, and as many do this with their “jobs”, I chose to take a mini break from this… even though I don’t consider it a job at all! It’s a pleasure doing what I do here. But I had to just unplug a bit, from this, from social media some, and just take a break.
So here we are back together again, and it’s a new year. And what comes with new years? Let’s all say it in unison… RESOLUTIONS! Yup. You know it. We hear it ALL the time, right? I think it’s THE big buzzword of every January, along with DIET. Am I right?
In the overall scheme of things, let’s think about how can we make our resolutions something we can actually stick with and follow through with, rather than letting them go…. So this Sunday, as we’re wrapping up our weekend of “holiday-ing” for the past few weeks, I’m sharing 5 things to help you keep your resolutions.
1. First things first. Write it down. I’m sure you’ve heard that before but it’s true! Write it down… in your planner, in a notebook, in a private journal, wherever you wish, but just WRITE it.
2. Break it down into small chunks. If you have weight to lose, don’t just say “I want to lose 50 lbs”. Instead, how about “I want to lose 50 lbs, my first goal is 10 lbs.” and then keep going and keep breaking it down into the smaller chunks.
3. Change how you look at what you are trying to achieve. Instead of dreading the foods you will change and the exercise at the gym, think about the transformation your body will go thru and how amazing you’ll look and feel.
4. Set up reminders around you. Post it notes, alarms on your phone, apps that help you stay on track for all kinds of goals are just a few things you can have as reminders. Even an old picture of yourself a that goal weight is a reminder of where you are striving to be again. I’ve also talked before about accountability partners HERE, well, if need be, then find one to help keep you accountable.
5. Give yourself cushion to make a mistake and get back up. Don’t be so tight and restrictive with yourself that the minute you don’t do good or make a poor choice, that’s it, the deal is off. No. Be easy on yourself, then dust yourself off and get up and get focused again.
Remember this… 2014 is behind us… the good, the bad and the ugly. This is the start of a new year, a time to start fresh, as is EVERY morning. So make it that. Make it NEW and FRESH and as good as can be.
Just some of my personal thoughts on goal setting and resolutions.
