Fun factoid about me: Did you know that WAY back when in the day I used to be a financial planner with one of the worlds largest brokerage firms? Yup. I started out working downtown in the ivory tower, and it was glamorous and fun and interesting and an adventure, but it wasn’t for me. It was the best learning experience I had on my path to knowing what I wanted in life because it was then that I knew I could never work for anyone other than myself. Interesting, huh?
Well, along those same lines, I dressed up to work every day. Suits and heels and pantyhose every single day. And another intersting factoid: it was only halfway through my time there that women were allowed to wear pants! That’s right! My first half of my career there, I was required to wear skirts. Crazy how times have changed, right?
Well fast forward to the 21st century, where we live in a day of “business casual”, and now things are so much more relaxed to an extent. Since I work for myself now, I make my own rules, and when I go on appointments, that’s how try to dress: business casual.
I want those I’m working with to know I’m professional, I mean business, I know what I’m talking about, I’m confident in what I’m sharing and presenting, I can deliver what I say I’m going to deliver, and yet I am relaxed, fun, easy going, and not a “stiffy”. I have a sense of style and can pull myself together in a way that says I got my ISH together.
I’ve teamed up with Banana Republic to show how you can pair a few professional pieces in a business casual way.
I paired up this sleek simple blazer with their blush tunic beneath it and layered it with their long necklace that could be dressed up or down. The jacket is lightweight enough to wear now thru the cooler months and has a flattering slimming look with an inverted collar that makes our neckline look beautiful. This look was dressed down with my jeans and I paired it with a clutch and shoes I had in my closet. This look works perfectly for a day to dinner look.
