You’ve heard me talk about this latest and greatest new social media app. Hardly anyone knows about it truly I think. Periscope. I scoped a video last night at a local restaurant and no one knew what I was talking about.
I talked a little bit about it HERE. But I still BARELY knew anything about it. Well I’ve got more for you today!
So Periscope is a LIVE VIDEO STREAMING app. Someone videos live while others watch. And while they watch, they can comment and engage with the broadcaster. They can say anything they want, (although I’ve been known to block a few inappropriate comments out there!), ask questions, share it with their friends. They can also give hearts, meaning they like what they hear, and are giving “love” and kudos to the broadcaster. The video is public for only 24 hours then it disappears. You can save it to your device if you choose, and there’s also an app called Katch that captures them that makes your videos available for people to watch a replay.
Periscope is linked to twitter. You need to have a twitter account to have a Periscope account, but you don’t have to have a Periscope to watch it. You can watch it online through a twitter link or after it’s been captured and saved in Katch.
So why get on Periscope? Periscope has it’s place for different people for different reasons.
If you want to “scope”, here are a few things you can share on Periscope:
- Share an event that’s going on
- Share tips and tricks and a how-to
- Share behind the scenes…. of your life, of an event
- Share it for personal use
- Share things for business purposes
- Share breaking news
You don’t have to “scope” to be on Periscope. It needs viewers as much as it needs scopers! So hop onto a scope you see that might be of interest to you. It’s a fun way to learn and see new things and meet people you wouldn’t have met otherwise. And it’s LIVE and broadcast around the world. How cool is that?
So why get on Periscope? You might see something really cool, or learn something different. The one thing we love when we are scoping is HEARTS and engagement. So if you ever see me scope, tap on your screen and gimme some love!! And engage with me. Talk to me! Ask me questions! Imagine talking to a group of eyeballs and everyone has a blank stare at you…. that’s what it feels like when no one is talking to me! LOL! So PLEASE say something! HA!
So I’ve been slowly scoping, still learning as I go, as I do everything that I do. So I decided to join a group in September called September Scopers. Lauren from Working Mom Magic and Julie from Girl On The Move put it together. and they’ve come out with an October Scopers calendar. So I’m going to chime in again.
This is open to anyone, not just bloggers. So if you’re wanting to try out periscope, chime in! If you’re not so bold but want to see what I’ve got to say, follow me on Periscope HERE. Remember to talk to me! Say HEY! Tell me if I have food in my teeth! HA! and… don’t forget the HEARTS! (wink!)
Some tips on using Periscope:
I also think the secret to this is keeping them short and sweet. Unless I’m giving some really beneficial information, people don’t have time to watch “The Irene Show”. They have other better things to do with their lives. So keep that in mind when you’re scoping as well.
Also, use hashtags to make you findable. Remember this is linked to twitter. So use hashtags that people will want to see, like #BizTips or #BizScope or #tutorial.
It still seems to have a few little glitches here and there, but overall it’s working pretty well. Remember this is a new app and it’s one of the fastest growing social media platforms. So we’re all early on this wave, let’s catch it!
If you want to save it, remember to go to your settings and hit SAVE TO DEVICE. Then be sure and delete it after you’re done using it because it will take up storage. You can move it to a dropbox folder and then do whatever you want with it.
I uploaded a scope to YouTube. If you recall my CRAZY wild scope at the recent grand opening of H&M in Oklahoma City… you can see it here…
Don’t laugh! It was SOOOOOO exciting I couldn’t contain myself! HA!
And another tip…. I learned the hard way… DON’T CHEW GUM! HA! seriously, what was I thinking????
If you miss me live, catch me on the replay on Katch. It’s saved all of my scopes since I’ve signed up. Which hasn’t been very long at all. So find them there if you’re interested in seeing more…
I’m seriously interested to know what you guys think of all this. Who is on Periscope? Would you watch me? Either live or through a link? What kinds of things would you want me to share? You’d get me LIVE and ready to rumble! Let me know…comment below! And if you want to join Periscope and start scoping and don’t know where to begin, chime in with us #OctoberScopers! Let me know as well so I can do my best to follow you too!
